SpongeBob SquarePants: Truth or Square

Posted by: admin   in SpongeBob SquarePants News · Comments Comments Off on SpongeBob SquarePants: Truth or Square

SpongeBob has another DVD out. Hurray…not. Let me make this abundantly clear up front: I hate SpongeBob. I know, travesty, you say. But it’s true. Not only do I hate SpongeBob, I would go as far as to say I wish I could use his face to wash out the inside of the litter box my two cats use, or something else equally disgusting. Or perhaps I would give him to a hermit crab to use as a water fountain. Either way, he would not be in my living room, on my television, for my viewing displeasure.

That said, the episodes on SpongeBob SquarePants : Truth or Square are actually not that bad. There were five episodes on the disc. “Truth or Square” (the extended director’s cut) is the main episode on the disc and focuses on the Krusty Krab’s Eleventy Seventh anniversary. When SpongeBob and all of his buddies try to get an ice sculpture of a giant Krabby Patty out of the freezer, they all get locked in and they reminisce about becoming friends and the opening of the Krusty Krab. “Porous Pockets,” the next installation on the DVD, is not as entertaining but will still bring in some laughs as SpongeBob sells his so-called giant pearl. Other shenanigans on the disc include “Choir Boys” in which SpongeBob faces off against Squidward in the Men’s Choir competition, “Krusty Krushers” during which Patrick and SpongeBob take up tag team wrestling and “The Card” where SpongeBob is searching for a certain rare trading card that Patrick happens to have.

While I didn’t really mind these episodes, it occurred to me that the first few seasons of the show were indefinitely better. Those episodes were not only wittier and better written, but they also had much more creative storylines. I’m not sure if the writers would have made it this far if they knew that an entire episode was going to be devoted to the Bikini Bottom Men’s Choir. My guess is that they would have quit before they started.

There are a bunch of great celebrity guest stars on this disc. Will Ferrell, Pink and Tina Fey all take part in the Krusty Krab festivities. LeBron James and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog also get in on the action. And of course you can’t leave out Robin Williams, Rosario Dawson or Ricky Gervais, who also appear in cameo roles. Also, there are quite a few laughs, especially when Mr. Krabs tells Patrick there is only one way out and Patrick infers higher education is the key. The animation is done pretty well, and the sound quality is great. Overall, I’m not a huge fan of SpongeBob SquarePants : Truth or Square, but it is just the sort of thing children and their families will enjoy, especially if they are already fans of the little guy. It’s recommended for anyone who is a fan of the show.

Pink makes SpongeBob appearance

Posted by: admin   in Cast, SpongeBob SquarePants News · Comments Comments Off on Pink makes SpongeBob appearance

Pink is set to appear in a special anniversary episode of cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants.

Pink is a big fan of the quirky cartoon and was delighted to appear in a live action segment, celebrating a decade of the Nickelodeon hit.

Pink will even perform a song for the world’s most famous sponge, but she’s not the only celebrity queuing up to join the fun – Gnarls Barkley has agreed to record a special cover of the SpongeBob theme.

The Truth Or Square episode will see SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward and Mr Krabs accidentally lock themselves inside the Krusty Krab’s giant freezer.

Its writers have described the special as a parody of the recycled flashback episodes seen in Friends and other US shows.

And Ricky Gervais, who has previously appeared in an episode of The Simpsons, lends his voice talent to an extended DVD version that will be released on November 16.

:: SpongeBob SquarePants: Truth Or Square will be shown at 4pm on Nickelodeon on Thursday November 12.

Loveable cartoon character Spongebob Squarepants has spawned a range of character inspired consumer electronics devices including a DVD player, digital picture frame and boombox.

Rather than just opt for a sticker or colour change to what are normally boringly designed gadgets, the makers behind the devices have opted for a full moulded experience hoping to appeal to kids and Spongebob fans alike.

The compact DVD Player is bright yellow, has Spongebob’s face on it and will support all the usual DVD formats, but atlas not Blu-ray.

The boombox, which looks even crazier, will come with Aux-in capability, CD/CD-RW playback, analog AM/FM radio, and 2 x 1 watt stereo speakers.

The 7-inch Digital Picture Frame offers SD / SDHC / MMC / MS Pro Duo / USB Flash support, comes preloaded screen savers with classic SpongeBob images, as well as doubling as a calendar and digital clock features, and dual alarm clock with snooze function.

The is also a 7-inch Portable DVD Player, a 1.5-inch Digital Picture Frame Keychain and Mechanical Alarm Clock with AM-FM Radio to quell any Spongebob fetish you might have.

JHS goes global with Spongebob instruments

Posted by: admin   in Download SpongeBob SquarePants Episodes, Photos, SpongeBob SquarePants News · Comments Comments Off on JHS goes global with Spongebob instruments

John Hornby Skewes & Co has grown the international distribution for its range of Spongebob Squarepants branded real musical instruments, moving into the Canadian and Australian markets.

On top of this, Musik Meyer in Germany has just taken on the line. The products are already available across Austria, Switzerland, France, Benelux and New Zealand.

“We are delighted to be launching Spongebob with such esteemed distributors,” said JHS export sales manager, Adam Butterworth. “The quality of distribution that has been achieved so far means that the potential growth for our Spongebob product lines in those countries is huge.

“And that’s far from the end of the story, as negotiations are presently underway for more international distribution partners for Spongebob instruments, with confirmation and commencement expected by the end of 2009 or start of 2010.”

Existing distributors are finding a high demand for the products, with many saying they underestimated initial sales projections.

“We bought our first major Spongebob instruments shipment in June and we are already sold out,” said Bodo Suss from Swiss distributors Moon Music. “In the summertime, Switzerland has maybe eight million people in the country in total, a much smaller market than Germany, France, Italy and the UK, so such a sales response is already amazing.”
