John Hornby Skewes & Co has grown the international distribution for its range of Spongebob Squarepants branded real musical instruments, moving into the Canadian and Australian markets.
On top of this, Musik Meyer in Germany has just taken on the line. The products are already available across Austria, Switzerland, France, Benelux and New Zealand.
“We are delighted to be launching Spongebob with such esteemed distributors,” said JHS export sales manager, Adam Butterworth. “The quality of distribution that has been achieved so far means that the potential growth for our Spongebob product lines in those countries is huge.
“And that’s far from the end of the story, as negotiations are presently underway for more international distribution partners for Spongebob instruments, with confirmation and commencement expected by the end of 2009 or start of 2010.”
Existing distributors are finding a high demand for the products, with many saying they underestimated initial sales projections.
“We bought our first major Spongebob instruments shipment in June and we are already sold out,” said Bodo Suss from Swiss distributors Moon Music. “In the summertime, Switzerland has maybe eight million people in the country in total, a much smaller market than Germany, France, Italy and the UK, so such a sales response is already amazing.”
